In this Workshop, the learning objectives include, but not limited to:

Introduction to principles of Ayurveda

- Brief explanation of the 3 Doshas or body types and their characteristics
- Determining ones Dosha type.
- Short sequence of pre-Shirodhara Ayurvedic face and head massage
- Preparation of Equipment, Oil and Herbs for the treatment (Takra Dhara, Dugdha Dhara, Jala Dhara, Tailam Dhara)
- Important Marma points on the head and face that relate to different organs and systems of the body
- Conducting the Indian Head Massage that precedes or succeeds shirodhara
- How to conduct a Shirodhara oil treatment single-handedly using appropriate herb-infused oils and equipment
- How to adapt techniques and choose Ayurvedic oils to suit a client's body type and/or ailment

Workshop Intro:

Shirodhara means the constant flow on the Ajna Chakra with medicated herbal oil (thaila Dhara), or with buttermilk (takra dhara), or with milk and herbs. (Dugdha Dhara). Usually followed by a gentle head massage. Works According to Ayurveda, it works on the Central Nervous System, and benefits Insomnia, Eye issues, Sensitive Eyes, Emotional Trauma, and even alleviates and benefits muscular stiffness in and around the spine. Great for Estheticians, Massage Practitioners or any alternative health practitoner.

THEORY:
1. Introductions and ice breaker
2. Introduction to Ayurvedic Head Therapies - Head Massage, Shirovasti, Shiro pichu and Shirodhara.
3. Tridoshas and their issues: Headache, Insomnia, Sensitive Eyes, Acute Stress Hair Thinning, Dry Hair, Dandruff issues in Pitta, Vata and Kapha Individuals.
4. Shirodhara - Introduction, benefits, Contraindications, types of dhara, equipment used in Spa setting or Health setting
5. Shirodhara and western therapies - what compliments it and shirodhara for beauty or therapy.

Practical
1. Ayurvedic Head Massage with marma points
2. Different herbs used for Shirodhara - Taila (oil) Dhara, Buttermilk or Takra Dhara and Dugdham (whole milk and herbs) Dhara.
3. Different Shirodhara Pots, equipment - copper pots, steel pots, coconut pots, shirodhara table
4. Demonstration of Shirodhara on one of the students
5. Ayurvedic Facial Massage, Head and Shoulder/back massage that can be used for different conditions along with Shirodhara.

OPPORTUNITIES: - Integrate this technique within your existing style of massage or therapy
